About Wayne

Wayne Edwards is an Emmy award winning production leader with over 20 years of experience in broadcasting and multimedia. His courses include Convergent Media, Journalism, Television Studio & Field Production, plus On-air Performance. He is also an advisor to many of the university’s Communication clubs.

Wayne's teaching philosophy is experiential learning through hands-on, observation, and critical thinking. In class, he enjoys sharing professional experiences and inviting guest speakers within the industry to give students a perspective of real world experience. His assignments and projects promote creativity, storytelling, and organizational detail that prepares students for their career beyond graduation.

Wayne's career began as a Producer for ESPN leading live productions of professional, collegiate, and amateur sport events. In addition, he developed multi-platform content, plus functioned in the roles of Feature Producer, and Post-Production Editor. He also aided in the training and development of many on-air personalities currently seen on the family of networks.

Wayne won a Sports Emmy for his producing role in ESPN’s groundbreaking coverage of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The NAMIC Vision and New York Festivals Gold awards soon followed.

As Director of Production and Programming for Back9Network, a golf lifestyle channel, Wayne was one of the executives responsible for its launch on Direct TV to 20 million homes. He set the overall look and content vision of its studio shows and aided in the acquisition of third-party content. He managed the day-to-day production and operation of broadcast personnel, on-air talent, plus the Features and Post-Production departments.

Wayne continues to function as a freelance producer for various national and regional networks in which he is able to invite students to observe. He is also a consultant to scripted/non-scripted programs and Principal of his own production company, Wayne Edwards Production.
