Synopsis

STEPHEN KING is the author of 55 novels, 200 short stories, and 6 books of nonfiction. He has also written poetry, screenplays, and essays. He won an O. Henry Award for his short story, "The Man in the Black Suit," and his stories have appeared in The New Yorker, The Paris Review, Esquire, Playboy, and Tin House.

His talk will cover King’s complete body of work, beginning with very rare, unpublished juvenilia, and continue through King’s college writings, his first short stories, and his breakout novel, Carrie. The presentation will include details on King’s life, as well as his novels, short stories, his epic Dark Tower series, and the finest film adaptations of King’s work. Mr. Spignesi will also present an extensive and exclusive slideshow of memorable Stephen King images and moments.

Biographical Information

University of New Haven Practitioner in Residence Stephen Spignesi—christened "the world’s leading authority on Stephen King" by Entertainment Weekly magazine—has taught the course, "The New Gothic Horror of Stephen King" at the University of New Haven. He is the author of six books about Stephen King and his work, including The Stephen King Encyclopedia, The Lost Work of Stephen King, Vols. 1 & 2, and The Essential Stephen King, and is considered one of the foremost experts on King.

His writing about King has appeared in Harpers, Midnight Graffiti, the Atlantic, the New York Daily News, the Hartford Courant, in many anthologies, and on US and foreign websites, and he appeared as a King expert in the A & E Biography of Stephen King that aired in January 2000.
